💡 Think about it, and then choose carefully
A long time ago, my then partner and I thought of naming our business Hebro Stables. My Mother-in-law was in awe and wondered if we really were that stupid and never heard of a place named Hebron...
I am one of those people who literally hates abbreviations of competition venues, series and riders. An opinion that I share with many organisers and their sponsors!
I remember one of the last years that Mitsubishi Motors UK sponsored Badminton Horse Trials and how they emphasised the importance of us journalists making sure to reward the sponsor by using the full name of the competition.
Because the correct name of the competition was not Badminton, MMBHT [sigh] or even Badminton Horse Trials, but Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.
Something most journalists seemed to have missed during the 20 something years they already had this main sponsor.
For me, and others like me, it feels incredibly dull when journalists don’t fully commit to their assignment.
Not only is it boring, it also makes it difficult for those horse people who are not slavishly involved in the sport to keep up.
In addition to this, it creates a gap for other, more regular, sports journalists as they often turn to the trade press for information about sports that are not spelled football, Formula 1 and such.
But one of the worst actual brands recently introduced on the equestrian market must be the Swedish horse site Yeeha, a fundamentally fantastic initiative in itself. But the name!
Give me strength!
What were they thinking?
If you don’t understand my frustration regarding this, say it out loud [where no one can hear you] and for sure the token will fall into place...
So when branding your company, your idea, think about it and choose carefully.
